I think if you’re going to have 1st person narrators talk about happy they and the other character have had “snappy banter”, you probably want to make sure the dialogue you’ve been written is better than this book’s

So far this book has a severe case of expositional dialogue “this is the situation we find ourselves in” “yes it is and here is the background for that, as you know”
Like that thing in movies where people address one another as neighbour or cousin or whatever so you know who they are
