Sometimes I think these plays really transcend time and other times I'm aggressively reminded that Euripides was a man writing these in the 5th century BCE... Why are we feeling sorry for Agamemnon but blaming and hating Helen... who wasn't even at Aulis.... I know it gets complicated by Agamemnon being Iphigenia's father but come on

I was inclined to feel bad for Hippolytus but now he's gone on a relatively unprompted misogynistic rant (even by the standards of, yk, ancient Athens) I kinda feel like he had it coming lol. Should've worshipped Aphrodite ya berk

It's so nice to know that the 'here please accept the hand of this mysterious veiled lady who is DEFINITELY not your dead wife miraculously restored to life' trope is even older than much ado about nothing
