more and more i get the impression i accidentally found a rough draft and i'm reading that instead of a finished book.

finally getting more interesting!!! i feel it'll be easier and quicker to finish now that we've dumped the awful plotlines and moved on to the most exciting ones. i'm feeling excited for once???

reading this has been so painstakingly dull that it has put me off of reading entirely, so my progress is very slow. how this book manages to be so bad is beyond me. finally reached the second part and hoping it's better but the expectations aren't very high.

and this romance? god, kill me. probably the worst i've read in recent years.

for a book so focused on characterization, it sure fails at it fantastically - luo ji is an awful character, both in the sense of being a shitty person AND being horribly dull, flat, uninteresting and stupid.
plot wise, it's getting more interesting but definitely not as good or as entertaining or even as smart as the first book.

i can already feel this is going to be painful. it lacks all of the charm of the first book, there were some truly abysmal editing choices (miniscule font, font type, text width), the translation style is quite different (more purple prose-y instead of the simple matter-of-fact of the first) and the constant changes in pov leave no time to get used to characters. also, there are no chapters???
