Maisie and the people in her life are so good hearted and spending time with them is a great pleasure.

There is a second mystery! This one I'm finding interesting! I was planning to finish the book tomorrow or Wednesday but it might be hard to not find a way to finish it this evening.

I think that the “mystery” in this one is ridiculous (though I suppose it's plausible even though a bit far-fetched) but I don’t read this series for the mysteries. I mostly read them for the characters and the relationships and secondarily for the events and the settings and the history. (continued in the comments!)

She is doing a good job of mentioning events that happened in the previous 17 books. I'm glad because I'd forgotten some things.

I'm savoring this book. I'm going to miss this series.

Ann, Maybe I'll also feel differently about the Botswana series and about his other series. I think I've read one book in each of the other series.I don't want to turn you off Maisie. There is tragedy and other serious issues but overall they are heartwarming and there is some humor too.
I hope your library has plenty of ebooks to keep you occupied for a couple of years and that you'll enjoy your new library when it's reopened.

Ann, Yes, exactly like that. You and Laura both love that series. I'm not sure why I'm not as smitten. It is definitely heartwarming and interesting. Someday I'll read it. I've read just the first three books so far.
This series is heartwarming but it also gets very, very dark. Keep that in mind and be in the mood for it. If you ever think you might read it I can give you some non-spoiler details of what to expect. I'll just say that the characters and the relationships are what matter and the mysteries hardly matter in the most of the 18 books. What is dark is that there are a lot of losses/deaths. After all the story-line goes from 1910-1945, from Maisie at 13 to about 48, and what happens in the world wars, especiallly WWI, is described in some detail, as do the problems a few people have after those wars. The last two books (before this last one) have ended on really happy notes so I assume this one will too. Maisie and some of the other characters are memorable.
