What a DUMB! DUMB! DUMB! dumb bug/problem/issue. Goodreads isn't letting me get to certain books so that I can add them. I click and click and click, and from more than one place, but nope. I made a note to add the books when I can.

Goodreads won't let me add/check the box for: "Vote for a book review" - just FYI. I guess it's just one more glitch/bug.

This is something important to know about Amazon and Robert Reich's newest book, and I'm sure many other books and probably other merchandise too.

Recrudescence. The return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Interesting article about the Goodreads Choice Awards: " The Unbearable Whiteness of the Goodreads Choice Awards"

I do miss voting for children's middle grade books and picture books.

I have two of her books on my to-read list. After reading this I want to take a look at all of her books and read at least one of them. Any specific recommendations?

“Sand, although it might seem limitless…it’s the most exploited and consumed natural resource in the world after fresh water…”

“In San Francisco, most people would be surprised to learn that beyond the marshlands that have been filled in or altered, there also used to be miles of sandy beach fronting the Bayshore…”

"We talk about the Amazon being the lungs of our planet, but studies show that coastal wetlands, left to their own devices, can capture and store three to five times more carbon dioxide than tropical forests - and sometimes much, much more."

"The best shot at saving the tidal marsh in California might just be, after all, along the San Francisco Bay."

Every time I pick up this book I do enjoy it.

The San Francisco Bay Area and groundwater: "already identified 25 different landfills at risk of leaching toxic chemicals as the water levels rise."

"The coast of California is marked by massive inequality."

"Floating cities might sound like science fiction...(but) no new technology is required."

"Crammed onto the tip of a thumb-shaped peninsula, this celebrated metropolis...owes its existence to sheer force of will...Something needs to give. But even in a city as environmentally minded as San Francisco, acquiescing to nature has not been easy."

I'm reading this one chapter at a time. I'll probably start & finish three other books before I finish this one.

"At its most basic, coastal armoring could be as simple as dumping giant pieces of broken concrete along the beach or at the base of a cliff. Remnants of freeways, destroyed in past earthquakes, support much of the riprap protecting some areas along San Francisco Bay."

There is a second mystery! This one I'm finding interesting! I was planning to finish the book tomorrow or Wednesday but it might be hard to not find a way to finish it this evening.

I think that the “mystery” in this one is ridiculous (though I suppose it's plausible even though a bit far-fetched) but I don’t read this series for the mysteries. I mostly read them for the characters and the relationships and secondarily for the events and the settings and the history. (continued in the comments!)

She is doing a good job of mentioning events that happened in the previous 17 books. I'm glad because I'd forgotten some things.

Something is very, very wrong. Goodreads won't let me like reviews from the book page and when I go to members' pages to look at their reviews from there and click on the link to read their reviews, their "reviews" have no text reviews, even though I was able to read their reviews from the book page. Is anyone else noticing this?! Thank you.
