This is such a Victorian sensation novel! Just with much more blatant sex. The similarity finally struck me as the drama (revenge! murder! secrets! evil villains!) has ramped up in the last part of the book.

This book was first published in 1991 and it shows. That's both a good and a bad thing, as anyone who reads old school historical romance novels will understand! I'm enjoying it, but also giving it some serious side-eye at times. Still, there's nothing quite as fun as a torrid, melodramatic, somewhat tawdry romance novel when you're in the mood for it.
