f___________ck! This whole essay, In Defense of Saccharin(e), made my mouth water, it was so good. "We dismiss sentimentality in order to construct ourselves as arbiters of artistry and subtlety."

I've been meaning to read this for the longest time and thought this could actually work as the "science" book for the Read Harder 2016 --- but after reading it, it's more social science/reporting/memoir/an amalgam of awesomeness but not *really* science.

What are you thinking of doing for "nonfiction science?" Now I'm thinking maybe Seeing Voices or What We See When We Read. Or maybe Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything.

For the "collection of essays" I was planning on reading Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches but The Empathy Exams: Essays would totally count. And it's really, really good! (I think you'd kinda love it, too)
