Kilorn is the Gale/Mal of this book and no one can convince me otherwise

Man, so much of this book so so lazy and rushed. It very much reads like a first draft where the writer hasn't completely polished the characters or neatly explained away all the coincidences. It has potential, but it's all so lazily executed.

Is Harbor Bay a stupid name? Like is it a harbor or a bay? A harbor in a bay? Idek

"Oppressing you, trapping you in an endless cycle of poverty and death, just because we think you are different from us?"

...okay, yeah I wasn't exactly expecting a coherent critique of hierarchy from this silly YA book but this is just stupid. I'm also annoyed there's no religious moralizing about the inherent evil of Reds or the divine benevolence of Silvers or whatever

"My heart plummets in my chest until it bounces around my toes."

Literally what the Juliette Ferrara does that mean

Something that breaks the realism is how little description there is of the food or soft warm bedsheets or other luxuries that would be new to a girl who grew up poor. Mare barely seems to register any of that.

Omg shut the fuck up Mare. God, I forgot how annoying and dramatic she is.

I've decided to try reading this series again because its not as depressing as Hunger Games and maybe I might have fun this time.
