Tolkien can get away with appendices. I'm not sure Eddings can. His world doesn't feel like it quite has the depth of Middle Earth and thus all appendices feel a bit surplus to requirements. I will finish the book but there might be a lot of skimming...

Coming back to Eddings is always like a warm hug in literary form. This might be the most entertaining introduction I have ever read.
