I despise dumb main characters. In addition the "angry son who hasn't spoken to his father in years then finds out daddy is dead & feels all these conflicting emotions" trope is just... ick! It almost always comes off poorly written. If you spent a lifetime growing up with a distant un-caring father then his death isn't going to be that upsetting. If you were close the two would've made things right in short order.
