"I like living. I have sometimes been wildly despairing acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing"(22) I really like this quote because nobody every thinks or realizes that people loose their lives everyday, and how being alive is just a beautiful and cool thing in general.

" You forget every time what you felt before when it comes again"(466) I think this can be true with certain experiences, especially sad ones. In sad experiences, yoou want to forget the pain you just experienced and try to block it out of your memory. But the next time something bad happens, you don't know how to deal with it because you always try to push those emotions away.

"I had the idea that a woman's name would prejudice people against my work, especially in detective stories."(266)I feel bad because I know at that time period (and still sometimes today even) women were looked down upon, and were only thought of as housewives or they were just thought of as dumb.

"Why did i like being frightened?"(164) I remember when I was little and loved to watch horror movies and hear ghost stories but now I hate them. I think we liked to be scared back then because it was just excitement and not understanding anything, but now that we understand the world better we are more frequently scared and don't like to be scared anymore.,

"No young woman then, as far as I can judge, would ever own up to having rude health."(158)I think this is very true. Back then, all children didn't really voice their problems because they were' allowed to complain. It was normal to beat children, so if children didn't want to be beate, they would only speak when spoken to.

"I myself was always recognized, though quite kindly, as 'the slow one' of the family."(136)I can relate completely. Being the youngest, my family always excepts me to be the "innocent" one (I'm not) but they also except me to be slow, yet keeping up with the times. As someone who has no social life, I usually don't know many topics they discuss, which they except of me, but they still expect me to be "slow"

"On the whole I think the snobbery of my childhood, the snobbery of birth that is, is more palatable than the other snobberies; the snobbery of wealth and intellectual snobbery."(132) Most people don't fully understand what that means, but it is simply saying that even though when you were a snobby little kid (we all were) its still reasonable because when you're an adult you have no excuse to act that greedy.

"How odd it is, when remembering early days, that the weather seems constant in certain places(115). I think this happens because when you are a little kid, you don't remember many details when you look back because it was so long ago and your brain wasn't developed enough to remember much detail, except for pain or tragedy because they're important.

"It was just before I was five years old that i first met fear."(96) I can relate to this because at around five years old you start to learn more about the world, and its when you're first taught how to read and write, so you are opened up to a whole new world along with fear. I think everyone develops their first fear or memory around five because of that.

"On my fifth birthday, I got a dog. It was the most shattering thing that ever happened to me; such unbelievable joy."(79) I can greatly relate to this feeling, because getting my dog was one of the best things that had happened to me. I was unable to say a word but only able to look at my new dog, Lucky.

"Perhaps because in the years of her childhood she had been quiet, restrained, with her emotions kept well below the surface, she tended to see the work in terms of drama that came near, sometimes, to melodrama."(47) I think this is because during your childhood, if you are pent up and can't express your emotions, when they finally can they could be sensitive to it because they grew up that way.
