"You're not allowed to have tobacco as a candidate in BUD/S. I thought no one would see... He opened the can and put it out in front of me. 'Eat it."(pg58) This quote is showing me how serious SEALS are and the restrictions they have. If he was dipping he would have to eat the whole can. That is disgusting and I could never even think of doing that.

“You want to feel confident the guy you’re working with is someone you can rely on—after all, you are literally trusting him with your life.” This is an important quote because you are your wing mans protector. If he dies you screwed up. If you are not confident in the person then why trust him with your life when crazy people can kill you.

“Anyone who wanted peace—anyone with any sense—left as soon as they could, or ended up dead.” People who wanted peace would leave but the people who hated America would stay and would try to kill any soldier in their way. The city was supposed to be evacuated so if you were still in the Banghdad then they were considered enemies. The SEALs and Marines would kill anyone left.

“At the same time, I was angry he was leaving and terrified he wouldn’t make it back." This quote shows me that it would be very hard to be a soldiers wife or husband. It would be terrifying to not know if they were alive or not. They would probably try to convince them to stay because it is very hard to see them leave maybe forever.

“Both of our families were in town for the birth. We were all very happy, and yet, at the same time, we knew Chris would be leaving soon for Iraq. That part sucked.” This quote shows me that it is tough being a military wife. They would have to make memories by themselves and that would be tough. Also you would be the only one helping the baby in every situation.

“I learned the basics of a range of weapons, so I was prepared not only to use them all, but also to choose the right one for the job.” This quote shows me that there is a lot of thought put into what goes on before combat including guns. Also it shows me how he has to be comfortable with many guns. I think this would take a lot of time and skill to master every sniper to make it your job.

“We were going to die. Or worse, we’d be captured and made prisoners. I thought about my family and how horrible that would all be. I determined I was dying first.” This quote shows me that they would rather die then be captured. In order to die they really have to get out of their covered positions and shoot to kill more people. It turns out the Marines met them there and killed everyone.

“If 100 percent success, 0 casualties are your goal, you’re going to conduct very few operations. You will never take any risks, realistic or otherwise.” This quote shows me that people in the SEALs are expecting some casualties. They know it's bound to happen. If you don't take any risks then you will most likely not do great in battle. This shocks me because I would think they want to come out flawless.

“Every night someone on the other side of the river would stand up and take a shot at us. We would dutifully call it in and ask for permission to return fire. The answer was always a very distinct, “NO!” Very loud and clear." This quote shows me that wherever soldiers are people want to kill them. If someone were shooting at me I would either shoot back or run. That is not a choice for them.

“Our job was to look for suicide boats and mine layers that might be coming down the river to the Gulf." This quote shows me that the world is a crazy place where anything can happen. There can be a bomb anywhere you go as a soldier. That's why there are people hired to patrol the area and find things like this. The fact that they have to look for this means that being a SEAL is a very dangerous job.
