Again, I know this was a massive contributor to the reform of mental institutions but it is a little sad that the woman who wrote it is also clearly deeply saneist and I don't know if she'd have done anything to cause the reform if everyone she'd encountered had been actually mentally ill

She's very worried that people will realise she's just pretending to be crazy which is a little funny bc from everything she's said literally it did not take much for them to think she was actually for real crazy

What's particularly striking is how easy it was for her to convince everyone she was insane given what she's describing behaving as isn't particularly concerning

On one hand I know this report was a huge contributor to the rights of mentally ill people, on the other hand there's something deeply disheartening about even the woman who made that contribution being like "I had always assumed survivors were exaggerating until it happened to me"
