It takes a little to get into it, but probably it's because it's book #1 in a series and I'm not yet fond of the characters or because the previous book I read was so engaging that now everything else sounds me a little bit flat and boring.
So far I would rate it no more than 2.9 stars (i.e. not even full 3 stars ).
Hoping it will improve.

There is an element in common with These old shades by Georgette Heyer, but while I didn't like that novel, this one, little by little, turned out to be nice.

Always enjoy your point of view. If everyone liked the same book it would be a boring world.

Actually it has improved after 50% through the book, finally the main character looks more interesting too me and I hope that in the next books the family dynamics and interactions with the smart little boy and the rest of the new staff will continue.
As I said, after reading a book that involved me greatly, it is difficult to immediately enter into the story of another book (especially of a genre so different from the previous one).
This is probably my real problem, because I usually love Mary Lancaster and this is a light series that I would like to enjoy on days when I have little time to read.
Thanks for following my progress, I'm happy to discuss it with you !!!!!!! :-D
Same here. Enjoy comparing notes. Plus, I did not see the twist coming up so that adds a bit to the story.

it was so unexpected ! There was actually a thought from Ape about Piers to be so handsome that left me a little perplexed... but I would never have imagined the truth!!
Ah...now it gets interesting!!!
I'm going to snoop around the plots of the next books in the series...well, well...
