“Let me clean up,” I say. Link’s arm tightens, stopping me from sitting up. I look at him, my heart skipping a beat when I see how soft his eyes are. It’s something I thought I’d never see again. I’ve grown used to his hate, and it almost hurts to see anything but. Because now, I never want to lose it.

"I’m so fucking angry, Echo,” he whispers, followed by a soft moan. One of his hands slides up around my jaw, tipping up my chin and ensnaring my gaze in his. “Because you should’ve been mine first.”
