Alice coined the phrase “womanism.” Feminism is a movement amongst white women for white women. The suffragettes didn’t fight for a non-white woman’s right to vote and today’s feminists aren’t advocating for the civil rights of black womanhood. I was introduced to Womanism [specifically black feminism] earlier this year. It’s time to understand the woman who started the movement.
