I've only read a third of this book, so I can't really judge, but I don't get why people call it a "slow burn" : I would rather describe it as "painfully repetitive". If you get rid of all the rephrasing and repetitions, I think this book won't last more than 200 pages top!
The plot is rather delightful, but nothing out of the ordinary.
