Donald Greene’s essay is excellent and funny! It brought to mind how easy it is to mis-read Jane’s novels without close reading and yet how delightful they are to read simply for pleasure in the plots.

Great essay by Eva Brann. I wasn’t sure at first how it would develop but it’s fun and thoughtful.

A fascinating essay by John Wiltshire about how film is inherently a Romantic medium and therefore cannot capture the “bracing…, ironic, comic, and intellectual writing that is the reason why we do read Jane Austen”. He enjoys the adaptations but convincingly explains why they are fundamentally different from Jane Austen’s own motivations and style in her writing.

I just wrote on one short essay about Mansfield Park: “No to all this.” 🤣
