Not at all like the movie. There's so much more character drama in the book. I can imagine Stephen King reading this and getting the idea for IT. This book has similar vibes; the monster kind of serves as a backdrop for all the crazy stuff in the characters' lives. I have yet to see how it all turns out, but I'm expecting it to get wild. Maybe not cosmic-talking-turtles-and-giant-spiders wild, but wild.
