Having an emotional time with this book, my first full-length read about chronic illness. It’s by an Iowa City author, set primarily in Iowa City—where, as a graduate student at the U of Iowa, I began treatment for chronic headaches just four years after the author does. I know the path she’s walked in so many ways. This is comforting since the experience of this pain is, as she says, so private and isolating.
