The protagonists in the first story, A Study in Scarlet, are Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Dr. Watson is the narrator, and he is a thoughtful man of science. He is also rather steadfast in his beliefs, and finds it somewhat difficult to consider any other ideas other than his own. Holmes is a thoughtful man who sometimes considers science, but has also developed his own sort of detective logic and reasoning.

I chose to read Sherlock Holmes because I have always heard about how wonderful the stories are. They are very popular stories and have been adapted into many films and television shows. I have never actually read any mystery story before, and I wanted to try reading one. I thought reading some of the most well known mystery stories to date would be a good place for me to start reading, and so far they have been.
