My former pastor (Gavin Ortlund) is mentioned in this as a tool for leftist thinking or whatever and has made several videos explaining how much she's outright lied about him and many other people featured in it. She's been relentlessly harassing him and his family on X in the aftermath of this as well. Gavin is the farthest thing from leftist or bought--I loved his leadership, but I disagreed with how conservative he was at times. Take this with a HUGE bucket of salt grains.

Heya Karly! Interestingly, my first exposure to this book was because I watched Ortlund’s video about it. Then I went down a rabbit hole of interviews with Basham before deciding I needed to read it myself. The perspectives on the book were so polarized, it was hard to figure out what was true. I’m still working through and looking at her sources, and I don’t follow X, but it’s disappointing to hear there has been harassment. (Especially because I didn’t come away from the portion that mentioned Ortlund with the impression that she meant he was “for sale”…In an interview with Krista Bontrager, Basham said as much, so it makes me wonder why there is animosity now instead of discussion and clarification of the points he raised in his video.
