Such a great book! I hope you'll continue right on to The Box of Delights when you finish this one.

Yes! I actually read that one first and was blown away by it and now I'm finally getting to this one. Masefield is so marvelously inventive!

One of his books includes a painting on the wall that comes to life, and I always wonder if Lewis was thinking of that when he wrote the opening of Dawn Treader.
It really is a crying shame he isn't more widely read. And yes, I think in both this one and Box of Delights there's a picture that comes to life. I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis was inspired by it. He certainly read Masefield. There's a blurb from him on the back of my copy of Box of Delights!
