Nearing the end now, but there's a lot to happen still. It's been a rare treat to revisit. It's amazing how diverting magic can be though: the mirror reminded me how seldom Harry's thought of his parents since being accepted to Hogwarts. Typical orphans might be much more urgently curious about who their parents' friends were before they died, among other things (like wanting to see their magical portraits, maybe!).

This is a comfort read now. Reminds me of a simpler time, before the internet and adulthood. The main plot is so scarce. It's basically just an adventure/exploration story. It's hardly a mystery, since its subtitle is the puzzle's answer... But it's the setting that really carries the book, even if the characters have heart and charm. It's just nostalgic more than anything. I don't think kids today will care as much.

Basically at the climax now. This is the point in the story where readers can still make guesses at what the ending will be, to try to solve the mystery before it's revealed. Funny how little I remembered of Norbert though... And the bit with the cloak. It fascinates me to see the Mandela effect spring up as I rediscover how much I actually remember from the book, rather than just inserting from the movie.

This might be the only time I've ever re-read a book, cover to cover (audio books don't count)... It's been something like 25 years since I first finished it. Rowling is a genius for having the blind lead the blind, haha. Uneducated Hagrid introduces Harry to wizardry and he just glosses over so many complicated questions, and since Harry doesn't know any better we just go along. It's so easy and charming though ;)
