I think I’m over this book and could DNF right now quite happily. But I’ve put so much time into it I feel obligated to trudge on.

King sure liked his stereotypical gender roles in the early days. The women handle the cooking and the washing and dutifully pair off with whatever man happens to be convenient, despite the fact that the only doctor around happens to be a veterinarian. And of course Fran is voted secretary and gets to keep the meeting minutes 🙄

Well I’ve abandoned the complete and uncut edition and resumed with the original one a friend was kind enough to loan me. Turns out unedited King and I do not get along; his preoccupation with sexual assault hit the final straw. Hopefully whoever edited it originally agrees, as I do want to finish this.

I’ve never before read 400 pages of a book and still been uncertain if this is preamble or the main plot. I think this is all still set-up. Amazing and compelling set-up, sure, but like…. I’m ready to go here Stephen. Let’s get to it.
