The melodrama of much of the dialogue in this series fits with the particular genre it's going for but my god is it fucking cringe sometimes

God damnit. I want to read the next story but that means putting together the ebook first and I am not nearly awake enough for that

Fascinating how close LotW came to the concept of obscurials here, given that it was years before Fantastic Beasts was even a thought in anyone's mind

Not being able to remember what I thought the first time I read this series is annoying. I want to murder Lily, but I can't remember if I did the first time too or if I was just confused as to what the fuck was going on

Seriously, melodramatic twin brother who would fit perfectly in this AU...and slightly more realistic, over everything Harry who is constantly just staring at him and going "We're not on Coronation Street. Why are you like this?"

Oh ffs you little prick, it's just a fucking quidditch match. One of you was always going to lose.

Accidentally neglected, completely over everything Harry and a twin brother who's just as embarrassingly earnest as Connor. "You're going to catch me and stop me? Are you Batman? Go to bed, idiot."

For someone who goes on about how Gryffindor is full of saints, Connor really is a manipulative little fuck. He could use a solid smack to teach him not to use people's kindness and loyalty against them

I keep having to put this down because I can see the cringe coming. Can't wait until somewhere around book 4 when Harry stops being quite so idiotic

I can't wait until I'm far enough into the series that Gryffindor is slightly less full of self righteous pricks. Connor is annoying, but he's 12 years old. There's really no excuse for Sirius and James

I’m starting to just headcanon this wizarding society is inherently melodramatic: the dialogue, teenagers hugging their parents in public, 12 y/o boys hugging each other—the characters in this fic act on emotion in ways that do not compute for me

I seem to remember LotW being a lesbian which...would explain a lot, actually. I dislike a lot about canon, but JKR did manage to portray the emotional constipation of the average teenage boy fairly well.(From a writing perspective, it's almost certainly to do with the entire thing being written basically a chapter a day for over a year. That is an *insane* pace, especially when you consider how long the chapters are. It's basically a sprinted-seat-of-your-pants rough draft. At that pace, you don't have a *choice* but to accept emotional shorthands like constant hugging that would normally be taken out in subsequent revisions.)
Like. I just did out the math and it's 478 days between the first chapter of Saving Connor and the last chapter of I Am Also Thy Brother. The entire series has 549 chapters (if you include the Maze of Light one-shot).That's...I can't even imagine writing that much that quickly. Especially when you get into word count, the average WPD being over *6000*. I'm happy if I get in 6000 words a week, let alone every fucking day.
