The problem with revisiting favorite books from your teens when you're in your 30s requires no further explanation. Nostalgia fail.

Mir That lesson, I have learnt it. I hope you didn't ruin anything you were too fond of.

My coping mechanism is to try to remember that the fact that my adult self has issues with a book doesn't invalidate the enjoyment I initially had when reading it.

I actually had this experience with Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind; my best friend has insisted for years that the book was terrible. I'm not sure I would call it terrible, but I'm not nearly as enamored of it as I was in middle school.

Admittedly it could be that the romance at the core of the book no longer carries it for me since I realized upon growing up that having wizard babies with the Mother Confessor was not to be on my to-do list.

Mir Cats are sort of like wizard babies.

Michael S. In that case I do have one wizard baby already.

Mir And you've probably outgrown wanting to be married to someone with dangerous enemies who imperils you.
