I've been meaning to reread this novella for a while, since I barely remember it and want to reacquaint myself with this setting before moving on to other stories set in the Xuya Universe. I also desperately need a palate cleanser after another couple of middlin' books.

I'm surprising myself with my negative response to the time travel aspect of this story. SF is all but fantasy at times, I know, but it's just too hard to wrap my head around the idea that a time travel device could account for both time, and the movement of galaxies as well--not throwing our traveler into deep space or somewhere else immediately lethal.
