Garth Ennis' contribution confirms my overall impression he's at his best when doing way serious stuff, keeping his trademark goofy shock humour to a minimum. For the most part I'm really starting to like "Hellblazer"... it's got a really distinctive combination of deeply studied British supernatural folklore traditions with a distinctively UK style of social realism in literature.

for a collection of rare stories this actually serves pretty well as an intro to the character and the "Hellblazer" series overall, also has a biographical chart and some other background info though it's maybe a bit spoileriffic

funny how the Jamie Delano and Grant Morrison contributions read VERY different in style, but there's this leading motif through everything of tying a very distinctly British literary tradition of modern social realism - reminiscent of the angry young men of the 1950s - to the rich supernatural folklore of that country and seeing how they intertwine
