This is one of those books without a main character, instead we have a cast of characters from all walks of life and we follow their lives in bits and pieces. I get a little worried whenever I start a book and there's a "dramatis personae" list in the front. I can't remember all those names and their place in society and relations to each other, etc.
Ah well, this book is starting to get interesting, slow start.

I've heard of this author but never read anything by him before, but when I saw the description that it's about a generation ship I was all in. I totally love generation ship stories. There's so many ways things can go wrong, and that makes for interesting reading.

It's starting to get good. this is one where they have to establish the characters (there's a lot of them, too) before the big things start to happen (dead body found with no ID in the database not even DNA; A mob protest that goes wrong (wait, don't they all?!); a character dies and their spouse deals with grief; a 12-year old girl (considered an adult in this society!) appalled at the pain of her first sexual excounter ("They didn't say it was going to hurt!") 12 years old! That's criminal. What kind of society is this????
