When I bumped into a 1985 paperback edition in a charming little second hand library in Brussels, I known only the fame of this author. Over the next few weeks, this pocket book is accompanying me in the tram, train, on the desk, at my bedside and is gradually becoming part of my circadian cycle.

Exhilarated by Violet's snappy introduction at the beginning of the unwanted meeting with Phineas in the Lady Laura's foyer : "I am alone - a poor unprotected female. But I fear nothing (...).
