This aura of light symbolizes her purity and goodness, and at the beginning of the book, the Lady's beauty and light cause Bernadette to trust, listen to, and revere her. The Lady symbolizes how white equals goodness and purity, peace and hope, which is how Bernadette feels whenever she is with the Lady.
