I really want to love this, but it’s so predictable. The storyline of a journalist falling in love is starting to bore me, and it seems like South African authors really lean into this trope. It reminds me of If I Stay Right Here by Chwayita Ngamlana—the writing style is similar, almost like reading a Facebook diary. It feels like I’ve seen this story before, and at over 400 pages, I’m just getting bored
