“‘...Mr. Simmons contacted the board with a complaint.’ … shouldn’t accept proposals from board members or immediate family because of potential bias or favouritism'” Which I thought was outlandish, considering I thought initially that the proposal would take out, considering the weeks of research and time, along with that they had to put it in a binder? But I was wrong, and it surprised me. After the-

Amos made a change. A 13 year old boy made a change, maybe not big but as the realization sets in, he did something different. A small black boy walked in, not older than 8 or 9, younger than him as appearances show, he was with his father. Caleb. “‘I'm trans, like Albert.’ Caleb explains, and his father shows, “‘...thank you. Your speech was, um, a pleasant surprise.’ … ‘No. More than that. It was a blessing.-

After Amos’s speech at the reenactment center my mind was going through it. Mr. Simmons was furious, taking the blame on Amos, saying it wasn’t family friendly. His mom defended him, even taking the blame for it in some way, she knew, she knew and she said “I was hoping you would tell me on your own, but the closer we got to today, the more I realized how much I’d shaken your faith in me. I'm sorry Amos” She-

Maybe Brad will take in Chloe afterall… Or not. When I was reading today I stumbled across the words, “wasn’t taking on any apprentices...apparently he accepted one, “last-minute emergency”...” Which something like this doesn’t seem like a big deal, a white male being chosen over a black girl? It doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but then it does. Ben was skittish, and seemed nervous when confronted, giving-

Today's reading did not go as planned. A rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions. As I read today it was going well. Ben and Amos went to the movies, a date. Ben was trying to see if he’s straight or not, which I saw coming up. But then after he was gone? Didn’t go to the summer program, wouldn’t answer his phone. His parents, Ben’s parents have a different thinking, which is fine, they restricted him, taking him-

Sometimes words from adults aren’t really the best. “‘...I don’t know if he’d be comfortable bringing on a girl’ … ‘Isn’t that a little sexist?”’ Amos’s friend Chloe wants to become the first black woman blacksmith in the LHP foundation. His mother doesn’t think it’d be accurate, but when speaking to the current blacksmith, Brad, asking for an internship he’s a little skeptic… “I'll need to think about it.” Is-

CC - “Abernathy, is there something more important that she could teach you that I couldn't have.” Is what Ms. Whitman says, proposing out to Amos during the reenactment of old school, while Amos gives her eyes just before hand, calling on him as one of the people around him rats him out, giving eyes that I thought his teacher would recognize, but, somehow didn’t?

Amos was searching for queer people in illinoi, specifically around where he lives from before the 1960’s. He ended up finding one person, Albert. Albert was a man who enlisted into the military for 3 years, served his sentence and then after, came back and migrated to illinoi. The thing about him is that Albert was born female, but stayed male all the way till death. Amos thinks Albert is a trans male.

From what I’ve been reading in my book with Ben and Amos, I feel as if they’re definitely good friends, and that Amos likes him. Amos even once saw him staring at a gay couple, which isn’t unheard of, but Ben blushed/got embarrassed over it being pointed out. Ben questions him on certain points of his life and how it’s mannered to me seems as if Ben is questioning himself.

“... and then we both reached for the ball at the same time and our fingers touched for half a second too long to be normal… But his hand kinda stayed there, and he looked up at me with his penny eyes and just stared…” -> “‘I just mean you have a nice face,”... // I think this is the first time I realized that Amos had a crush on Ben (Ben said he had a nice face). It didn’t seem like it was reciprocated but even-
