Holy infodump batman! I hate book series that just lay out the entire plot of the next 5 books. I don't understand why they just can't introduce characters more organically. And information! Jesus! Lizzie had a life in exotic Malta, a reverend dad who just spoiled her, an evil disapproving step mother and then poof! They are all dead and she is sent to live with her guardian.

What is Lizzie? An orphanage operator? Windows open all the time for cold air to be let in, no salt in the food, no laughter from her wards? This is so bad. And this whole brothel scene, so contrived! So much telling!

I think all that baggage would be better shown to us, instead of told to us. And then these chapters of Tommy just being a prick and thinking "people don't change in six years. She's just a slut" sigh. Tedious!
