NAH. NO WAY!!! I don't like Sue any more than the next person but the way Arabella cursed her at the end was FOUL. No mercy, left no crumbs. This book is really making me think about how I actually feel about well-written and nuanced female characters. I'm sitting on the rating but for now I'll give it 4/5 stars, it felt like I was reading a soap opera (I don't like soap operas).

Internal and external factors are destroying Jude. He is slowly being ruined by his socioeconomic status and society's traditional expectations, but he is also ruining himself because he has allowed himself to be clouded by emotions. However, he is able to do what he wants for the first time (although not exactly how he wanted it), and even that is starting to go rotten. It seems that nothing will ever go his way.

Watching Jude go through this is so sad. Being strung along by Sue, not being able to pursue his academic dreams, and even his renewed dreams of being a member of the church are crumbling because of Sue. Will it get any better for Jude?
