The thing that's unintentionally funny about all of this is that it's almost progressive in a way. They're a lesbian couple trying to get their parents to accept both their lesbianism AND the fact that they're polyamorous. But... it's totally not that intentionally. They're not lesbians because the author wanted to depict that, they're lesbians so the male self-insert character won't have any male competition.

HAHAHA, the payoff to the unnecessary business crap and the last scene of the book is Ethan getting his firm hired to represent some tech startup AI bullshit. I couldn't make this shit up if I tried. Oh my god, this is so stupid.
And there's going to be another sequel?! Why?! How?! Even this book was almost completely pointless! Where the hell would it go from here?

I'm more and more convinced that the author went through a divorce himself, and writing this was some sort of cathartic revenge. The way in which the ex-wife is so clearly in the wrong yet stubbornly maintains her position, and how Ethan is the 'bigger person' by admitting his faults and calmly disproving her accusations, feels so smug. It's kind of gross, actually.
Or, this was written by AI, and I'm a dumbass.

This is really hitting cringeworthy notes. More than one stranger comes up and asks Ethan about his relationship to the girls, so he gets to show off. Would never happen IRL, because no one cares. The other is how the few older women in the story act irrationally and are unambiguously in the wrong, and the men are the levelheaded reasonable ones. Makes me wonder if perhaps the author went through a divorce himself.

Trying to chug through this. It's still very boring. I was baffled by the intricate detail afforded to Ethan's boring work shit. It was probably only like a page at most, but still, it was so unnecessary in general.
They go to a private topless pool in Vegas and see mostly young people. Yeah, no, that's a load of bullshit. Especially because they say it's expensive. It would be populated solely by older weirdos.

A mother leaving her husband and child behind is not unheard of, but it's fairly rare compared to the alternative. This feels like some sort of cringeworthy revenge fantasy. It's just weird.
I am continually baffled by the decision to include the detail of the two older sons/brothers. They never directly appear. They serve no purpose. They just make things slightly more convoluted. It makes no sense.

I initially started this as a break from Sanderson, but then I immediately went and started another Sanderson novel because of how boring this is. And I've done it yet again. Lol
It's short, so I'll power through it, but it's almost completely uninteresting to me now after the initial premise.

After reading so much Sanderson, I was in the mood for some cringe. Been awhile. This is certainly fulfilling the cringe quotient. Honestly, not really into the 'story' after cresting the previous book's hill, but eh, this is short enough to breeze though and see what happens.
