Praise be to Harry Blamires’ New Bloomsday Book and The Joyce Project, I’ve never had to read a work of fiction quite this closely before. It’s engulfing me, and I’m loving every goddamn minute of it. I get the fuss over Joyce now, which eluded me with Dubliners and Portrait.

I read it side-by-side with Stuart Gilbert's excellent little book. he translated the novel into French and Joyce let him in on many of the novel's aims so that he wouldn't miss them.
