would love to know what you think of this. i read it a very long time ago and have it jumbled with some of his other work. very interesting man.

I just finished it last night. I enjoyed it. It was/is a clever way of organizing a series of stories. Although the organizing principle is the elements, it really is Levi himself, as he himself says near the end. Without good stories to tell and writing ability to tell them, it wouldn't matter that he had a clever idea of using elements from his work to thread these tales together. I didn't find every story to be great, but I found none of them to be poor, and I'm interested in reading more of his work.

it's been so long since i've read them, but i remember being very moved by his work. the drowned and the saved and survival in auschwitz are the two others i read....not to be read back to back, if i recall.
