Sorry I'm tired from playing few rounds of Fortnite (been awhile) with my son so this will be one of my shorter (but still so important) summary. =*)
Horton touches upon a popular Bible story of Jacob's Ladder where he saw angels ascending and descending the ladder. This is further described through John 1:51 where Christ represents the ladder predicting his coming to earth in human form. Few important points can be noted here:
1. Christ would come to us in human form so that he can live the perfect righteous life we could not live. It's only then that he would qualify to be the perfect sacrifice and substitute on the cross. 2. Christ would be born of the Spirit (via virgin Mary) so that he is not coming through the bloodline tainted by the original sin; however, he would have the full human nature to be dependent on basic needs such as food, air, relationship, etc. a. This is important because a perfect finite God-man can only repay back to an infinite God - "satisfy both divine justice and mercy in the same person." Horton b. "Infinity would step into time, so that we may understand." Michael Card c. "Christ is the bridge from the infinite to the finite." Horton d. Because he experienced life like us, he can sympathize and understand us at our most intimate and personal struggles in life. 3. God is Immanuel - God with us a. This is probably my favorite name of God. During my toughest times in life, no matter the struggle or challenges I faced, nothing comforted me the best other than knowing God is always with me. If a God that is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent is with me, who or what can surely be against me.
