This is a case study for the common refrain: “land doesn’t vote.” Every county in the US has an elected sheriff, despite the wildly disparate population numbers between counties, leading to disproportionate representation of rural Republican sheriffs, whose political views only appear to represent the “majority” views. Yes apparently sheriffs can openly express political views.
