To sharpen the saw is to take care of our selves. There are different dimensions that we must access: physical, mental, social/emotional, and spiritual. The book goes over the different ways we can take care of these four dimensions. Exercises would take care of the physical, meditation would take care of the spiritual, reading takes care of the mental, and service takes care of the emotional/social.

Books goes over a scenario when a group of people made their own syllabus. Synergy is when you allow others to make the rules for you instead if allowing those that do the wrong thing to make rules for everyone. else. By being open and authentic to thoughts and opinions of others, new ideas can. form, which can really bring the creativity out of people.

Seeks first to understand. Show empathy to others. You can show empathy to others and seek to understand everyday with your loved ones and people are work. Ways you can apply this principle are: writing down the situation from the other person's pov, sharing the concept of empathy with someone close to you, and watching people communicate with your ears covered.

We can get to the real issue if we are just willing to listen to the other person and understand their problem and how they feel about the situation. The author goes into a story of a dad and his son. Son is thinking about quitting school but he doesn't want to. Father tries to understand where he is coming from. Listening is a very important skill to attain and sometimes you don't even need to say anything to listen

In order to understand, you need to diagnose before you prescribe. In the book, the author mentions a story of a mother who called a doctor during a football event. The doctor was about to give her the incorrect prescription for her two month old if her husband didn't call back to mention that her daughter was just 2 months old. Diagnosing before prescribing is applicable to many professions.

Win/Win us when two people come in an agreement together. You need personal integrity and a relationship of trust in a Win/Win agreement. Author goes into a story of some rewards ceremony where only 40 out of 800 people received some reward. Win/Win cannot survive in a competitive environment, all parties must be cooperative. We get good results when people come into agreement with one another.

Author tells a story about two parents who learned to unconditionally love their child. Author goes into detail about how it best to prioritize one person than to please the masses. This opens to the idea that we should build strong relations to other people instead of constantly working our asses off with very little good interactions with others. We should live the primary laws of love and life.
