As a queer who is probably about a decade older than the author, there have been moments in the first half when I wish they included more history - did I miss Gladys Bentley or is she really not mentioned? - and/or direct perspectives from trans elders who were grown when certain media events happened. Be advised this is definitely more a personal trajectory than a history.
