ok now he's saying, with ZERO evidence, that robin william's childhood trauma CAUSED HIS LEWY BODY DEMENTIA??? no you literally cannot just say that. i need maintenance phase to pick apart this book because what the hell.

lol and of course now we're back with the classic fable of Woman Reports Willing Away Stage 4 Cancer with Good Vibes. do medical miracles happen? sure. but we cannot be irresponsibly pushing the steve jobs holistic diet and wellness plan as a possible cure for cancer ffs.

idk what the last section was but the part on capitalist exploitation and structural racism is excellent. especially appreciate the focus on violations of indigenous rights in canada.

this section on adhd is bonkers. i guess i have it because my parents fought and almost divorced when i was 10, and my dad has it because of chinese communism lmao. this book has gotten progressively more and more strange. at this point i'm reading just to see what unsubstantiated claim is made next.

this book has such a bad case of confirmation bias that maté brings up robin williams committing suicide while suffering from LEWY BODY DEMENTIA AT 80 YEARS OLD, with his wife quoting him saying that he was "losing his mind," and then retroactively determines the cause of suicide as being... lonely in childhood? nah you can't be doing this rn lmao.

mate really isn't backing up many of these claims with science. this is feeling like just vibes tbh. the book is going through a laundry list of health problems and explaining how (childhood) trauma is the cause lol. i do appreciate that he's surprisingly intersectional, and obviously a person with a lot of compassion.
