The protagonist of this story is a teen named Rand al'Thor. Rand is a teen, a sheep herder and farmer's son. He is a very intelligent and observant boy, due to his observations about the world around him. He is also very brave, because he makes split second decisions, such as the decision to save his father, Tam, by talking to Moirane Sedai, who he is afraid of. However, he disregards this fear so he can save Tam.
