one more day left of 2024…

finally made it to the section about “tevye the dairyman”!!!! this is exciting even if the author says “fiddler on the roof” does sholem aleichem a disservice :(((

so excited to continue this bc i’ve (for now) moved past depressing fictional stories about pogroms and am now reading a /fascinating/ essay about yiddish and sholem aleichem’s role in legitimizing it as a language <3 shoutout to tevye the dairyman and fiddler on the roof <3 also it mentioned ladino on the first page of the essay!!

everything is so sad!!!!

the danger of this book is that they don’t really give you any context (or warnings) for any of the selections… so i just read a poem about the holocaust without expecting to. happy hanukkah?
