so relatable that rilke begins every letter apologizing profusely and giving excuses for why it took him so long to reply. early twentieth century version of "omg i saw ur text and meant to reply but then i forgot about it mb ):"

a hundred and some years later, this reads as if i'm being personally given career/life advice by an austrian poet. this is writing that reaches across the span of time.
