I wonder when "to make love to" shifted its meaning from courting to, you know, just plain sex. Reading a book from the late '30s, I can confirm that the former meaning was still used then. Thoughts, theories?

From what I can gather online it was the 60s
That kind of makes sense. What with the sexual liberation movement and all. I still remember the first time I read "he sat in the drawing room and made love to her" (might have been Jane Austen in middle school) and my eyes just about popped out of my head.
