I’m getting some new fun ideas, especially the one about using certificate picture book, and there’s a lesson on a World War II one about how curious George was saved when the Raiders lead parents during World War II.

Conventional schooling seems to drive the curiosity out of students as they get older, sadly. We need to show our own curiosity about text of all kinds to engage them in reading and discovery..

We should be sharing our own literate lives with students, giving them a daily demonstration of what it means to live a literate life (discussing our trips to the library, museum, concert, play, and what we are reading). Bring it in and show our enthusiasm!

“The more devices a child had access to, the less he or she read in general” (50). DUH! This is not shocking at all. This chapter suggests reading aloud more and listening to audio books to pique curiosity about it stories that motivates kids to want to read or hear more.

"When kids are surrounded with compelling content, they are motivated to read, learn, and gain knowledge" (26).
