Ended chap two! That chapter ended heavy with the discussion of how campaigns are ran differently depending on jurisdiction, that’s because campaigns use public records, & public record laws vary by place. Also talks about how if party affiliation is on pub. voter regs. they will try to motivate their base. In states that race is in public record, POC will turn out more because they are more targeted by campaigns.

Read about how campaigns get into contact with voters. Main one is canvassing. Then we moved into another chapter talking about campaigns gaining knowledge on voters, and shortcuts. Knowing “encyclopedic” knowledge of voters is hard 4 a presidential campaign but 4 local races it’s doable. 💭 mix of poll watching, social media posts, canvassing, media stories, local info, voters who don’t get reached out to.

In the few pages I read tonight, the book discussed canvassing, and how there are different scripts pertaining to different neighborhoods, etc. it was cool to read about it because I canvass myself for campaigns. The book also talked about how young voters are often ignored by campaigns because they are harder to keep track of. Campaigns usually ignore unregistered voters and young people bc they are not reliable

Finally got through the introduction. The book is definitely giving, academic, and boring language. But the information is amazing! Obama’s 2012 campaign was the most sophisticated, and data driven campaign. Author also talks about how the data they are using is tied to public information. People that make the rules for the pub. info. are the candidates themselves. Some question on if it’s good for democracy

Haven’t read in a while, but starting to get back into it. Still in the introduction right now. Thought it was interesting how the Obama Administration targeted young people, because at the time, age was public information of voters, and data showed young people supported him. However, moving deeper into elections each state runs their own, so accessible data varies, which means the way campaigns target ppl varies.
